In Europe, this artistic tradition is often unfamiliar or misunderstood, despite being one of the most vibrant expressions of Brazil’s cultural identity. Most artists learned through practice, tradition and the knowledge passed down from masters, or elders.
Across Brazil, you can find countless artistic hubs, and each has its own techniques, stories, and aesthetics. Yet, the value of these works is often underestimated, and popular art is sometimes seen as a “smaller” form of art. Patuá exists to challenge that perception.
Our mission is to give these artists the visibility and respect they deserve, while bringing their vibrant creations to new homes and new contexts around the world.
